Hans-Joachim Watzke‘s Biography
Being the CEO of Borussia Dortmund, Hans-Joachim Watzke makes football-history and is closely linked to the unbelievable success of the previously ailing football club. In 2006 the management expert and entrepreneur prevented the bankruptcy of the then debt-ridden Borussia. Only seven years later, Borussia Dortmund is the only market-listed football club in Germany, German football champion, Cup Winner, Champions League finalist and practically debt-free.
Over many years, Hans-Joachim Watzke (born 1959) was head of Watex, a medium-sized company founded by him. In 2005 the football fan has become CEO of Borussia Dortmund and therefore left the management of Watex.
Watzke restructured and streamlined the football club consequently and by means of a rigid cuts plan and a smart financial plan, he set the course for Borussia’s successful future. Hans-Joachim Watzke has established the club once more on top of European football, not to mention the efforts of coach Jürgen Klopp.
