Lord (Peter) Truscott is a former UK Energy Minister and is an expert on contemporary Russia, and the former Soviet Union.
He was Energy Minister and Government spokesman for the Department of Trade and Industry in the House of Lords between 2006 and 2007. He was an MEP in the European Parliament from 1994 to 1999, and was Labour’s Foreign Affairs and Defence spokesperson. He was also a member of the European Parliament’s delegation for relations with the Russian Federation.
He has written extensively on foreign and security policy. An expert on the former Soviet Union, Russia and European security, he was Visiting Research Fellow with the Institute for Public Policy Research from 1999 to 2000. He is currently an Associate Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies. His major publications include Russia First (1997), European Defence (2000), Kursk (2002), Putin’s Progress (2004) and The Ascendancy of Political Risk Management (2006).
Lord Truscott regularly appears as a political commentator on the BBC, CNN and Sky TV. He is currently a consultant and non-executive director working mainly with energy, mining and public affairs companies thoroughout Europe and Russia.
