Dharshini David fronts Sky News’ daily financial coverage from heart of the City, analysing the latest economic developments and probing the CEO’s of major companies about their businesses’ accounts. She also co-presents the channel’s flagship “Sky News Tonight” programme alongside Adam Boulton from Westminster, which takes an in-depth look at the main stories of the day, from politics to popular culture. Since joined Sky in 2009, her forensic approach has shaped the news agenda on major issues through, for example, revelations about corporation tax avoidance and the government’s austerity measures. Dharshini was also one of a handful of journalists to accompany David Cameron throughout the 2010 General Election campaign, reporting on developments there.
Before joining Sky, Dharshini advised Tesco’s board on broadcast media. Prior to that, she was the face of the BBC’s Wall Street coverage in New York, from where she presented a daily business TV show. She was one of the first journalists to alert UK audiences to the emergence of the credit crunch in the US and the resulting financial crisis. This followed several years of covering business, economics and consumer issues in London for the BBC on all outlets – from the BBC1 Ten O’Clock News to Panorama and Radio 4’s Today programme.
Dharshini David was recruited by the BBC while working on HSBC Investment Bank’s trading floor as its UK Economist. Whilst there, she made headlines and changed government policy with her investigation into the true state of UK joblessness, and was given the “Golden Guru” award by a national newspaper for the accuracy of her forecasts
Dharshini has a Masters in Economics from the University of Cambridge, and has also worked as an economist in government and academia. She is a local authority school governor and passionate advocate of women’s advancement through education and in the workplace.
