Naga Munchetty is one of the main presenters for the BBC’s flagship Breakfast programme. Broadcast live from Media City in Manchester, it delivers news, current affairs, sport, business and magazine features and is watched by more than 12 million viewers each week. She also fronts the European Breakfast News slot for BBC World News.
Born and raised in South London, her passion and determination to reach her full potential saw her earn a post-graduate Diploma in newspaper journalism from City University after graduating from Leeds University.
Naga Munchetty’s first job was at the Evening Standard from where she moved to Reuters Financial Television as a reporter. She worked as a senior producer at CNBC Europe and then as Producer/Reporter Channel 4 News’s News at Noon programme.
She then landed a senior presenting role at Bloomberg TV where she regularly grilled central bankers and chief executives. After two years, Naga was lured to front BBC Two’s Working Lunch programme, from there she moved to BBC World News presenting the European Breakfast programme. She combines that with one of BBC News’ most coveted roles on the famed red sofa.
Naga Munchetty is a keen golfer, playing up to five times a week. Her handicap is 9, which she is determined to get even lower. A healthy addiction to the game led to her winning Celebrity Mastermind in 2013 on the topic of The Ryder Cup, where she got every question correct on her specialist subject. Munchetty is also an honorary celebrity member of The Duke’s 100 – which is part of the charity, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Keen to empower women and inspire more females to achieve success, 2014 saw her named in the Asian Power list as one of Britain’s most powerful Asian women alongside Liberty Director Shami Chakrabati and Jameela Jamil.
