Alex Edmans is Professor of Finance at London Business School. He is an expert in corporate governance, executive compensation, purposeful business, practical investment strategies, behavioural economics, and time management.

Edmans has a unique combination of deep academic rigour and practical business experience. He is particularly noted for his ability to present complex concepts in non-technical language and in an engaging, dynamic manner. He has spoken at the World Economic Forum in Davos, testified in the UK Parliament, and given the TED talk “What to Trust in a Post-Truth World” and the TEDx talk “The Social Responsibility of Business.”

Alex Edmans is a leading figure in the current reform of UK corporate governance. The UK government appointed him (jointly with PwC) to study the effect of share buybacks on investment and executive pay. He serves on the Steering Group of The Purposeful Company, which proposes policy reforms to encourage companies to pursue long-run purpose over short-run profit, on Royal London Asset Management’s Responsible Investment Advisory Committee, and as Managing Editor of the Review of Finance, the leading academic finance journal in Europe. He is frequently interviewed on TV and in the media, and has written Op-Eds for the Financial Times and Wall Street Journal as well as several articles for Harvard Business Review. He is the author of “Grow the Pie: How Great Companies Deliver Both Purpose and Profit”.

Alex Edmans began his professional career at Morgan Stanley in investment banking (London) and fixed income sales and trading (New York). After a PhD in Finance from MIT Sloan as a Fulbright Scholar, he became a finance professor at Wharton, where he was granted tenure and won 14 teaching awards in six years. At LBS, he won Best Teacher awards for both the MBA and Masters of Financial Analysis programmes, as well as the Excellence in Teaching Award for best professor across all programmes. Outside of LBS, Edmans is also Mercers School Memorial Professor of Business at Gresham College, giving free lectures to the public. His 2018/19 series was on “How Business Can Better Serve Society” and his 2019/20 series is on “Business Skills for the 21st Century”.
