Biography

Huw van Steenis is Global Head of Strategy at global asset management company, Schroders. In this role he oversees Schroders’ longer term expansion plans.

Van Steenis joined Schroders in October 2016, having previously worked as Global Coordinator Banks and Diversified Financials at investment bank Morgan Stanley. He is well known for his bearish forecasts prior to both the global financial and eurozone crisis, and for his views on the reshaping of the investment industry.

Van Steenis has won many investment awards and the teams he leads have regularly been ranked #1 in the Thomson Reuters Extel and Greenwich Institutional Investor surveys. He has been rated #1 in numerous investor polls. He has also twice been ranked as Starmine's #1 "Stock Picker of the Year" for European Banks and Financials.

Van Steenis is widely recognised as a thought leader on financial services and their macro-economic and policy implications. The Wall Street Journal's Financial News named him as 'European Banker of the Quarter' for 2009 for his work on the banking crisis and policy response - the only time this award has been made to a research analyst who they described as "one of the most well regarded and influential voices commenting on issues facing the industry". The Evening Standard's City Editor wrote 'It would be rash to bet against Steenis'.
