Deciding to live life even faster, in 1998, he raced his first Paris-Dakar. After winning the World Cup rally-raids T1 in 1999, in 2001 and 2002 he won the Rally of Morocco in T2. Next, Luc Alphand came in first in the 2006 Paris-Dakar driving a Mitsubishi accompanied by co-pilot Gilles Picard. He ranked second in 2007. From 2001 to 2008, he also created his own team Luc Alphand Aventures to drive the 24 Heures du Mans.
In 2009 Luc was victim of a motorcycle accident during a rally in Auvergne when he suffered a spinal injury. He was taken to hospital in an emergency by helicopter. He started a new challenge, competing in the Transat Jacques Vabre with Marc Tiercelin in 2011.
