Rita Coburn is a Peabody (2017) and Emmy Award-Winning director, writer and producer with nearly four decades of radio, television and film experience. Coburn has produced for the likes of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah Radio, Apollo Live! and Walt Disney Productions.
In 2016, Coburn co-directed and co-produced ‘Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise’, a documentary to celebrate the life of the American poet which premiered at the 2016 Sundance Festival, and went on to win a Peabody Award in 2017. The documentary featured interviews conducted by Coburn with world-renowned talent and public figures – President Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, Cicely Tyson, Quincy Jones, and more.
As CEO and owner of RCW Media Productions, Inc. since 2010, Rita Coburn develops innovative concepts for media, events, merchandise, and community engagement. Her work includes production management for TV commercials, a Google Doodle and online video celebrating Maya Angelou’s life as a global role model.
Prior to that, Rita Coburn served as Producer and Special Projects Director for Oprah Radio and HARPO Productions, with hosts such as Maya Angelou, Nate Berkus, Marianne Williamson, and Peter Walsh. She produced a variety of special events; and booked A-list celebrities, government officials, artists and authors, including Winnie Mandela, Attorney General Janet Reno, Archbishop Desmond TuTu, General Colin Powell, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sydney Poitier, and Tony Bennett.
Coburn’s value is such that she bridges the gap between generations, preserves African-American and Women’s history and promotes reconciliation. Through her work, she uniquely addresses topics from a multi-generational lens with a passion for impacting others through the untold stories of prominent figures and key ideals relevant to the culture.
