When Fionn Ferreira is not scaling his technology to remove microplastics from the ocean, he spends his time speaking to and conducting workshops with others; inspiring them to feel more empowered, energetic and enthusiastic about sustainability.
Fionn explores how the entire area of invention and innovation has huge potential for how we tackle climate problems. The sustainability industry is weighed down by stagnation and repetition and needs ideas put together in unconventional manners to act as breaths of fresh air, reinvigorating the battle for the climate.
As a 22-year-old, Fionn is accustomed to the challenge of getting older people to take him seriously. However, he loves telling his story to people who have, over the years, learnt that young people can invent as well and have often then enabled him to scale his invention to be able to make more of a difference, including Robert Downey Jr..
Fionn believes that sustainability needs to be built into companies’ cores, not just retrofitted. By putting sustainability at the heart of what corporations do we can change how they operate and how people work together – keeping everyone working together with a focus on a positive common goal that we feel we can stand for.
