Biography

Nick Ross is one of the UK’s best known and longest-serving broadcasters, most recognised for live events and for Crimewatch which he presented for over 20 years. He has awards for best broadcaster, best documentary, and best factual series, and his credits include several eponymous programmes including a long-running Radio 4 phone-in Call Nick Ross, a BBC-2 talk show Nick Ross, and Westminster with Nick Ross with live coverage of parliament and election campaigns. He launched British breakfast TV and Watchdog and has presented many of the main factual TV shows including the forerunner to the Six O’clock News, A Week in Politics, Newsnight, On The Record, and the main radio news programmes including World at One, The World Tonight and Newsdesk. In 2009 he completed a year-long investigation The Truth About Crime, a landmark series for BBC One, and has other shows in development.

He has served on numerous government inquiries and committees, is a director of Crimestoppers, the UK Stem Cell Foundation and Sense About Science, an ambassador for the World Wildlife Fund, and is president, patron or chairman of around twenty charities. He is a member of several bioethics committees, twice been chairman of the Science Book Prize, Guest Director of the Cheltenham Science Festival, and inspired the Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science at UCL where he is an honorary fellow and visiting professor.

He is President of HealthSense (formerly Healthwatch), chairs and the Wales Cancer Bank advisory board, is an Honorary Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Surgeons, is a Life Member of the Royal Society of Medicine, and a non-executive director of Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust.

He was awarded a CBE in 2021 for services to broadcasting, charities and crime prevention.
