Biography

In a journalistic career spanning almost four decades, Tony Maddox has seen it all. From coordinating news gathering operations on the front lines of the world’s war zones as the head of CNN International, to standing on the front lines of the UK’s miners’ strike as a fresh faced radio reporter, he has faced countless diverse challenges.

As head of news & current affairs for BBC Northern Ireland during some of the most difficult years of ‘The Troubles’, Tony Maddox had to navigate one of the most complex political environments in modern history. As the founder of the CNN Freedom Project he steered what is now the longest running campaign to end modern slavery, and was named a ‘Hero Acting to End Modern Slavery’ by the US State Department for his efforts.

Under his leadership, CNN International received countless awards for its journalism. It was twice named News Channel of the Year by the Royal Television Society, and during his tenure received multiple Emmy awards, Peabody awards, Edward R Murrow Awards, and was named Cable & Satellite Channel of the Year at the Asian Television Awards.

Tony Maddox has translated this vivid and extraordinary experience into lively, provocative and informative lectures on leadership at Georgia’s prestigious Emory University. With a combination of frequently hilarious, self-deprecating wit and unique insights into some of the most complex, demanding and occasionally nerve-shredding situations a leader could face, he is an outstanding, thoughtful and entertaining speaker.
