Biography

Andrew Paul Ayres is a senior strategist, AI governance expert, and thought leader in enterprise transformation, currently serving as Master Strategist for UK & Ireland at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). At HPE – one of the world’s most innovative edge-to-cloud technology companies – Andrew advises boards, CIOs, and policy leaders on how to navigate the complexities of AI adoption, cloud transformation, and digital governance across highly regulated sectors.

He is a Discussion Leader at HPE’s London Customer Innovation Centre, where he facilitates CxO strategy sessions on multi-cloud operating models, data trust, and AI-driven change. Drawing on more than 18 years of global experience – spanning enterprise consulting, public sector reform, and board-level advisory – Andrew blends commercial insight with deep academic rigour to challenge conventional thinking.

Prior to joining HPE, Andrew led strategic consulting teams at Micro Focus (now OpenText) and spent eight years with Gartner, where he advised senior leaders across the Middle East and UK public services. This cross-sector experience has given him a unique vantage point on how organisations transform under pressure — and how they fail when governance and trust are neglected.

Andrew holds a BSc from the University of London, an MBA (Distinction) from Manchester Business School, and has recently completed a PhD in AI Governance at Manchester Metropolitan University. His doctoral research examined the breakdown of traditional governance models in the age of intelligent, autonomous systems — with a focus on banking, finance, and high-stakes algorithmic decision-making.

He is the author of the forthcoming book The Agentic Edge: Governing in the Age of Autonomous Systems (2026), which challenges the dominant assumption that modern organisations are governed solely by human agency. In it, he argues that we are entering a new socio-technical era — one in which companies must rewire their operating models, risk frameworks, and leadership philosophies to accommodate the growing influence of non-human actors.

A member of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), Andrew is a sought-after keynote speaker across EMEA on topics including responsible AI, data strategy, and digital sovereignty.

His sessions challenge audiences to confront uncomfortable questions about control, trust, and the future of leadership — while offering practical frameworks for building more resilient, adaptive, and ethically grounded institutions. Andrew lives between London and Belfast with his wife, daughter, and dog. Outside of work, he is passionate about literature, music, and cross-country mountain biking.
