Beatrice Weder di Mauro is recognised as a global authority on economic policy due to her work at some of the world’s leading institutions. Weder di Mauro is currently professor of economics at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Distinguished Fellow-in-residence at the Emerging Markets Institute of INSEAD Singapore, and a senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation.She is Professor of Economics at the University of Mainz.
In June 2004 she was appointed a member of the German Council of Economic Experts which advises the German government on economic policy and economic development. Until she left the council in 2012 she was the first woman and the first non-German to hold this position.
Previously Beatrice Weder di Mauro worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank in Washington, and the OECD Development Centre. From 2002-2004 she was a member of the Board of Macroeconomic Advisors of the Swiss Federation, advising the Swiss government on economic policy.
She also serves on the board of several major corporations, including UBS, Bombardier Inc. and Robert Bosch GmbH. Her research interests are in international macroeconomics, in particular financial crisis, global capital flows, financial regulation, sovereign debt, development and growth. She has published widely in leading academic journals and writes regular op-eds and contributions to the public policy debate.
Beatrice Weder di Mauro writes regularly for the specialised press and is co-publisher of the magazine “Applied Economic Quaterly”. She works as a consultant for Deutsche Bundesbank, International Monetary Fund and OECD Development Center. Beatrice speaks seven languages fluently and lectures in free speech in German, English, Spanish and Italian.
