Biography

Cyril Vanier is a former anchor for CNN International based in Paris.

After joining CNN in 2016, Vanier covered major breaking news events in the US (Trump presidency: Russia investigation, impeachment, midterms) and worldwide: death of Fidel Castro, terror attacks in France, missile tests in North Korea etc.

Vanier also reported on location for many stories including from the Caribbean following Hurricane Irma; Paris for France’s 2017 presidential election; London for the Queen’s Speech; Haiti covering the Oxfam prostitution scandal, and Washington D.C.

Prior to joining CNN, Vanier spent 10 years at France 24 where he served as Executive Producer, Anchor and International Correspondent. While there, he reported on the world’s most impactful international stories, including: the 2008 election of Barack Obama, Israeli-Palestinian relations, the Arab Spring (Tunisia, Egypt, Libya), war in Afghanistan, terror attacks in Europe & Africa.

Vanier also wrote and anchored France 24’s flagship shows: The F24 Interview and The Debate.

Vanier’s coverage of the Libyan uprising was nominated for several awards including the Albert Londres Award and Bayeux War Correspondents Award.

While at France 24, Vanier received a M.A. in Journalism and Political Science from Sciences Po Paris (Paris’ Institute of Political Science) and a B.A. with Honors in Law and Business from the University of Warwick in England.

Vanier is a dual national of France and St Kitts & Nevis. He speaks fluent French and conversational Spanish.
