Dr Julia Shaw (born in Cologne in 1987) is a German-Canadian criminal psychologist, based in London, bestselling author and memory researcher. She conducts research at University College London (UCL) in the fields of criminal psychology, memory and artificial intelligence. She also works as a true crime expert for the BBC and numerous TV and podcast productions in Germany and the UK. Her groundbreaking “False Memory“ study, in which she implanted false memories in 70% of her test subjects using suggestive questioning methods, made her a rising star as a young scientist. Her non-fiction debut “The Memory Illusion” became an international bestseller and has been translated into more than 20 languages. Her second book “Making Evil” was also a bestseller, and “Bi. The hidden Culture, History and Science of Bisexuality” won numerous awards. In autumn 2025, her new book “GREEN CRIME” was published in Germany, the UK & U.S. In 2017, she founded the start-up SPOT in Silicon Valley, which uses artificial intelligence to combat discrimination in the business world. Her work has been featured in Der Spiegel, The Times and New York Magazine, among others.
