She also served the United Nations as Civilian Police Advisor in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.

As Inspector General of Prisons at Tihar Jail in Delhi, Dr. Kiran Bedi became internationally recognised for introducing a series of prison reforms focused on rehabilitation, education, meditation, skills training and prisoner welfare. Alongside her public-service career, Dr. Kiran Bedi has been a dedicated social reformer. She founded Navjyoti India Foundation and India Vision Foundation, which have worked for decades with underserved communities and prison populations. Her work has encompassed education, skills development, women’s empowerment, drug-abuse prevention, prison reform and community development.

Today, Dr. Kiran Bedi continues to focus on leadership, governance, education and social impact. Through Kiran Bedi Leadership Learnings, an initiative of her two foundations, she works to develop the next generation of purpose-driven leaders through experiential learning centred on discipline, ethics, accountability, innovation and service. In 2026, she also launched the Bharat Skill Exchange initiative, focused on connecting skills and employability opportunities.
