Andrew (Andy) Haldane CBE is a leading British economist, currently Chancellor of the University of Sheffield and President of the British Chambers of Commerce. He is Chair of the Glasshouse International Centre for Music and Chair of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, as well as Founder and President of the charity Pro Bono Economics and Chair of the National Numeracy Leadership Council.
Andy Haldane is a Contributing Editor at the Financial Times and serves as an Ambassador for the charities National Numeracy and Futures for All. He sits on the advisory boards of the Bradford Literature Festival, the South Yorkshire Mayor’s Economic Advisory Council, the Fora Work Institute and PwC, providing insight on economic policy, productivity and regional development.
He is Honorary Professor at the University of Manchester and a Fellow of the Royal Society, the Academy of Social Sciences and the Royal Society of Arts, reflecting his standing at the intersection of economics, public policy and social impact.
Previously, Andy Haldane was Chief Economist at the Bank of England and a member of both the Monetary Policy Committee and the Financial Policy Committee, helping to steer UK monetary and financial stability policy. He has also served as Permanent Secretary at the Cabinet Office, Chair of the Government’s Industrial Strategy Council and the Levelling Up Advisory Council, and Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Arts.
