Arna Vilborg Gissurardóttir is a record holding adventurer by being the only woman who has completed a solo expedition to a Pole and 8000 m peak. By the time she reached the South Pole she became the youngest woman in the world to complete a solo polar journey. Her other accomplishments include climbing the seven summits and a number of other polar and mountaineering expeditions.
Vilborg speaks about how she became an adventurer after being kicked out of school three times as a teenager and developed her skills through expanding her comfort zone in the outdoors.
Vilborg is open about her experience of how she stopped temporarily climbing after witnessing the avalanche in the Khumbu Icefall on Everest 2014 and surviving the big earthquake that hit Nepal in 2015 while she was in camp one on Everest. Vilborg is a climate campaigner and one of the leaders in the ATC (Arctic climate leaders program).
She is also an activist when it comes to closing the gender gap when it comes to mountaineering and exploring.
