Biography

Rachel Wilson is a Managing Director of Morgan Stanley and the bank’s first ever Head of Wealth Management and Infrastructure Risk. Before her move into the financial sector, Rachel held various executive positions at the NSA, where her roles included running counterterrorism and cyber-exploitation operations. She is an advocate for recruiting more women into the cybersecurity sector and works as a mentor on Morgan Stanley’s FAME programme.

During Rachel Wilson’s tenure at Morgan Stanley, she has been instrumental in advising senior business and technology leaders on a range of cybersecurity issues. These have included secure code development standards, secure network architecture, vendor relationships, advanced persistent threat detection (APT) and mobile security, and her team drove innovation for new cybersecurity and authentication technology to protect firm and client data.

Rachel joined the NSA straight after graduating and spent 15 years there where she held a number of key executive-level leadership positions. Between 2008 and 2010 she ran the agency’s counter-terrorism operations and led a global alliance disrupting terrorism threats to the US and its allies. Rachel was transferred to the US Embassy in London where she worked with UK intelligence to mitigate the threat of cyberattacks and terrorism ahead of the London 2012 Olympics.

Rachel Wilson later returned to the US as deputy and then lead of the NSA’s cyber-exploitation operations. In this role she was responsible for the planning and execution of thousands of counter-exploitation operations against a range of foreign intelligence, military and cyber targets, serving as the committing officer for some of the NSA’s most high-risk and complex intelligence-gathering activities.

In 2020 ThinkAdvisor named Rachel as one of the Top Women in WealthTech. women in leadership in the tech industry. She has been recognised as one of Morgan Stanley’s MAKERS Class programme, which honours groundbreaking and innovative female advocates at the firm.
