Biography

Dr Sue Black OBE is an award winning Computer Scientist, Technology Evangelist and Digital Skills Expert.

Dr. Black is both an honorary Professor in the Department of Computer Science at University College London and a Senior Research Associate at Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge. With a Computer science PhD, management and change management experience Dr. Black is able to be both knowledgeable and passionate enough to get any audience excited about technology’s offerings. Moreover, she has over 20 years technology and digital skills teaching experience, along with experience in successful social media campaigning and women and leadership having founded BCSWomen, the UK’s first online network for women in tech, and #techmums, a social enterprise which empowers mums and their families through technology.

Dr. Sue Black is also well known for founding the high profile campaign to save Bletchley Park, capitalising upon social media as a fitting continuation of Bletchley’s technological legacy. Her first book ‘Saving Bletchley Park’ about the successful campaign that led to save Bletchley Park is the fastest crowdfunded book ever. Furthermore, after her first trip to Bletchley Park representing BCSWomen in 2003, she also obtained funding for the Women of Station X project highlighting the women’s contribution there during WW2. Dr Black has also more than 40 academic publications.

In recognition of all this Dr. Black was recently named one of the top 50 women in tech. She is also Winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Lovie Awards 2018, and is one of the leading tech personalities in the UK today.
