Anders Fogh Rasmussen has been at the centre of European and global politics for more than three decades, shaping international security, transatlantic relations, and democratic cooperation. He served as Secretary General of NATO(2009–2014), Prime Minister of Denmark (2001–2009), Danish Minister of Economic Affairs, and a leading member of the Danish parliament.
Rasmussen began his political career in 1978 as Denmark’s youngest member of parliament at age 25. As Prime Minister, he played a pivotal role during Denmark’s Presidency of the European Union, helping conclude accession negotiations that enabled 10 countries to join the EU, an expansion he views as central to peace, progress, and prosperity in Europe. In 2009, he became the first serving Prime Minister to be appointed Secretary General of NATO, where he led a major transformation of the Alliance, overseeing operations across three continents, developing NATO’s Strategic Concept, and launching initiatives such as “Smart Defence” and the Readiness Action Plan to strengthen collective security.
A prominent advocate for stronger cooperation among democratic nations, Rasmussen has consistently championed deeper transatlantic ties, enhanced global security partnerships, and international collaboration on emerging challenges, including cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
Since leaving public office, Rasmussen has remained highly influential in global affairs. He is the Founder and Chairman of Rasmussen Global, a geopolitical and strategic consultancy advising corporations and governments on international security, the European Union, emerging markets, and technology-driven risks. He also serves as Founder and Chairman of the Alliance of Democracies Foundation, which promotes democracy and free markets worldwide and hosts the annual Copenhagen Democracy Summit.
Rasmussen has played an active role in supporting Ukraine’s security and sovereignty. In 2022, Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited him to co-chair an international taskforce on security guarantees for Ukraine alongside Andriy Yermak, helping shape the Kyiv Security Compact and subsequent frameworks strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and NATO allies. He previously served as an adviser to Petro Poroshenko and has held senior advisory roles in the private sector, including as Senior Advisor to Citigroup’s EMEA region.
Through his leadership in government, international institutions, and global advisory roles, Anders Fogh Rasmussen brings unparalleled insight into geopolitics, international security, economic strategy, and the future of democratic cooperation, offering audiences a unique perspective on navigating an increasingly complex global landscape.
