Dr. Bob Seely has been a soldier, foreign correspondent and Member of Parliament.
As a young foreign correspondent, he witnessed the collapse of the Soviet Union close up, reporting from throughout that country as it broke up. He first warned of a revanchist Russia in the mid-1990s and has researched and written about it extensively since then.
As a British soldier, he served on the Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and ISIS campaigns, where he witnessed the changing nature of war at first hand. He was decorated with a Military MBE for his operational tours by the late Queen, Elizabeth II.
As a Member of Parliament from 2017 to 2024, he warned of the growing threat to peace and the changing nature of threats, not only from Russia, but also China.
Dr. Seely has long been fascinated by the fusion of different forms of conflict, trying to understand them from informational, military, academic and political angles. He devoted a decade of study to Russian warfare for his PhD from the famous War Studies Department at King’s College, London.
Dr. Seely is a recognised global expert in his field. His book, The New Total War has received glowing reviews: “If you ever wondered what was really going on with Putin’s Russia and her relations with Europe, you need to read Seely’s book – he completely nails it,” wrote one reviewer. Another wrote: “Bob Seely has combined fine scholarship with journalistic skill and political analysis to provide a superb account of Putin’s war in Ukraine.”
The New Total War is the result of over thirty years of expertise in Russia, Ukraine and modern warfare.

The dangers of nuclear weapon use are growing. What are the chances that Russia, or another state, might use nuclear weapons? Given the size of its nuclear arsenal, the repeated threats to use them as well as recent changes to nuclear doctrine, it is one of the most important questions of...
Russian warfare has become the global discussion point in recent years, sparked by the devastating scale of the fighting in Ukraine and the Kremlin’s conflict, including threats of nuclear conflict, with the West. The New Total War is the essential guide to how Russia fights against not only Ukraine but the West as well....
In the chaos of the summer of 2014, Russia’s Channel One TV Station urgently reported on 12 July that Ukrainian soldiers had retaken the eastern Ukrainian town of Slovyansk. They entered the town and herded residents into its central square where they executed a small boy and his mother – an act of...
