Dave Duarte is an Authority on Mobile Marketing, Social Media and Attention Economics, using Conversations to drive organizational change, and is the foremost South African internet and mobile marketing specialist. He holds several senior positions in the academic, commercial, and non-profit sectors.
In 2014 Dave became a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum. He also serves on Endeavor’s Venture Corps, on the board of Mail & Guardian, and as Trustee for the Reach Trust, which serves over a million people in Southern Africa with mobile health and educational support.
As founder and programme director of two Executive Education courses, he developed and lectures Nomadic Marketing and Mobile Marketing at the University of Cape Town (UCT) Graduate School of Business. The courses are being run by the UCT GSB’s Executive Education unit, which has a global top ten rating from the Economist Intelligence Unit.
For Creative Commons (CC) South Africa Dave Duarte is Public Lead. CC is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creative works available for others to legally build upon and share.
Working with universities around the world, Dave’s home-base is UCT Graduate School of Business where he lectures on the Executive MBA, and runs customised marketing programmes.
He is the CEO of Treeshake (an educational research and design firm); Founding Principal at the Ogilvy Digital Marketing Academy (which provides training for Ogilvy’s staff and clients); and founding partner in the 27dinners (a dinner club for the digitally curious).
Previously he co-founded, and exited, Cerebra and Huddlemind. He serves on the boards for non-profits Mxit Reach, Congo Square, and Creative Commons South Africa.
Dave Duarte also lectures and has compiled modules for Evidence Based Management, a compulsory undergraduate commerce course offered at UCT. Each term he teaches over 900 students, his topics are Attention Economics, Social Media, Web Marketing, Innovation and Globalization.
