Dominic Troulan is a decorated former Special Forces officer.
In 2017 he was awarded the George Cross, the UK’s highest civilian award ‘for most conspicuous courage in circumstance of extreme danger.’ It is the first such award to a civilian in 25 years. Previously, whilst serving with UK Special Forces, he had received the Queen’s Gallantry Medal and the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service.
At just 16 Dom started his career with the Royal Marines and within a year he had his first combat operation on the Belize/Guatemalan border. He went on to see action in the Falklands conflict whilst serving with 42 Commando, and in both Cyprus and Northern Ireland. In 1987 he was then selected to be a Royal Marine Physical Training Instructor at the Commando Training Centre. In 1991 he joined UK Special Forces where he served for 20 years, retiring as a Major.
Since retirement from the Army, Dominic Troulan has lived and worked in East & Sub Saharan Africa. During this time, he has lead many important hostage releases.
In September 2013 he took a call from a family friend under attack from terrorists in the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi. In several sorties under fire, Dom single-handedly rescued many innocent civilians, while the Kenyan Armed Forces attempted to establish a cordon around the building.
Over the last 11 years, Dom has had many ‘near death experiences’ including a fight with two assailants resulting in Dom having three bullet holes in his left leg. Unfortunately, the two assailants did not survive.
Dominic Troulan shares his extraordinary life experiences, albeit from a humble, ordinary persons standpoint, and delivers invaluable insights on:
1. Physical and Mental Courage
2. Exercising Judgement and Situational Awareness
3. Leading others and Decision making
4. Negotiation and Persuasion
5. Crisis Management
