Biography

Lucy Fisher is an award-winning political journalist, broadcaster and author.

She is Whitehall Editor at the Financial Times where she focuses on UK politics, defence and foreign policy.

She is also host of the FT’s weekly podcast Political Fix. It was named both ‘podcast of the year’ and ‘political podcast of the year’ at the 2025 Publisher Awards, and Fisher won ‘story of the year’ for the Afghan Files at the Political Podcast Awards 2026.

Based in Westminster day to day, she has also reported from Washington, Brussels, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Arctic Circle. The list of grandees she has interviewed spans prime ministers, chancellors, chiefs of defence staff, permanent secretaries and ambassadors.

Fisher appears regularly on the BBC and Sky News, including the programmes Today, Newsnight, Westminster Hour, World at One, PM, Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips, and the paper review.

She has written two acclaimed books: ‘Women in the War: The Last Heroines of Britain’s Greatest Generation’ and the biography ‘Emily Wilding Davison: The Martyr Suffragette’.

An Associate Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), the world’s oldest defence and security think tank, she also was Chair of the UK Parliamentary Press Gallery in 2024. She has been named in the top 100 ‘Women in Westminster’ list in 2026.

Prior to the FT she was Chief Political Correspondent, then Defence Editor, at The Times.
