Popular Talks by Matt Thomas

  • Easy Yes: Offers People Get, Want and Buy

Strong offers often fail because they make sense logically, but do not create enough desire, relevance or confidence. Matt shows how to make offers easier to understand, easier to want, easier to need now and easier to buy.

  • Mediocrity and the Cost of Being Forgettable

Most work does not disappear because it is terrible. It disappears because it is safe, familiar and too easy to ignore. Matt explores why mediocrity is the real commercial threat, and how to build sharper ideas, messages and brands that mean more to the people they are here to reach.

  • Brand and Preference

Matt speaks about why brand is not decoration, polish or marketing theatre. In crowded markets, brand creates preference before the sale. This subject explores how experts, leaders and organisations can become easier to understand, easier to trust and easier to choose.

  • Why Us? Becoming the Obvious Choice

Every organisation is being compared by buyers, clients, stakeholders, tender panels, talent and the market. This subject sharpens the question sitting underneath every pitch, proposal, campaign and sales conversation: why should anyone choose us?

  • Impossible to Ignore

Based on Matt’s upcoming book, this subject explores how people, brands and ideas become real, rare, relevant and rated. It gives audiences a practical way to think about truth, difference, timing and trust in a market where competence alone is rarely enough to be chosen.

  • AI, Sameness and the Human Edge

AI is making information cheaper and average easier. Matt speaks about why that makes taste, judgement, originality, trust and brand more valuable, not less. This is not an anti-AI talk. It is a talk about protecting the human edge that makes work worth choosing.

Biography

Matt Thomas is a creative brand strategist, writer and speaker who makes experts, brands and ideas impossible to ignore.

He speaks on brand, preference, creativity, messaging, offers and what it takes to be chosen in crowded markets. His work is built around a simple enemy: mediocrity. Not bad work, but safe, interchangeable, forgettable work that makes sense and still fails to move anyone.

Matt works with founders, experts, leaders and organisations to sharpen the ideas, messages and offers they want to be known for, so the right people understand them faster, want them sooner and choose them with less convincing.

His keynotes and workshops are sharp, practical and provocative. They give audiences a clearer way to think about brand, relevance, difference, trust and commercial preference.

Before moving into brand strategy, Matt was an award-winning business journalist. He co-founded Smarta with Shaa Wasmund MBE, backed by Theo Paphitis and Deborah Meaden, and has worked with organisations including RBS, NatWest, O2, Xero, Santander and Lloyds. He has also created content for government, started his own content marketing business, co-founded a seven-figure training and events business, and now judges The Business Book Awards.

Matt has previously published two business books: The Smarta Way To Do Business, written with Shaa Wasmund, and Starting Your Own Shop. His upcoming book, Impossible to Ignore, is the foundation of his current speaking, advisory and workshop work. It explores the human art of staying real, rare and relevant in a world making average easier than ever.
