Biography

Phil Hogan is an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as European Commissioner for Trade between 2019 and 2020, and previously European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development between 2014 and 2019. He previously served as Irish Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government from 2011 to 2014 and Minister of State at the Department of Finance from 1994 to 1995, as well as an elected member of the Dáil (Irish parliament) for the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency from 1989 to 2014.

As Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan headed the EU Trade negotiations with the US, Middle East, China and Japan. This entailed lengthy and sometimes difficult negotiations which led to many successful conclusions. When the Covid 19 pandemic hit Europe in early 2020, Phil headed the negotiations and delivery of the supply of PPE for the member states.

Throughout his lengthy national and international political career, he has delivered many important pieces of legislation and international trade deals.

Phil Hogan was educated in Ireland in his home county of Kilkenny and later at University College Cork. He currently lives in Brussels where he plans a future career in business and consultancy.
