Derek Brower is the New York-based US Energy Editor of the Financial Times and an expert on global geopolitics; Russia and the Former Soviet Union; Saudi Arabia and Opec; and American energy; and the energy transition.
He has more than 20 years reporting from across the world, including from conflict zones, and has lived in Russia, the UK, Canada and the US. He reported extensively from across the Middle East and North Africa during the Arab Uprisings for the Economist. Before joining the Financial Times, Brower was a director of RS Energy Group, where he advised hedge funds and other institutional investors on geopolitics and US energy.
Derek Brower began his career at Bridge News (now Reuters), was editor of Petroleum Economist, and has written for an array of other magazines and newspapers. Brower holds a PhD in Russian Literature from University of London and read Modern History at Oxford University.
