Nicola Adams OBE is one of the UK’s leading sports figures, best known as an Olympic Gold Medallist she is officially Great Britain’s most successful female boxer of all time.
In August 2016, Nicola achieved what was the proudest moment of her career so far, in becoming the first British boxer to successfully defend their Olympic title for 92 years. Other sporting achievements include World Champion.
Over the course of the London 2012 games, she became an icon of the games after winning Great Britain’s first ever female boxing Gold, having defeated three time world champion Red Cancan. She instantly became a role model, realising her dream in front of millions, as the nation tuned in to see the world’s best female boxers come toe-to-toe for the first time in the Olympic Games.
In recognition of her services to boxing and unprecedented achievement, Nicola was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2013 New Year’s Honours list. She was made an OBE in the 2016 New Year’s Honours list.
On screen, Nicola has enjoyed a career in popular television dramas including, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, as well as a cameo appearance in the BBC’s award-winning original drama series, Waterloo Road. In 2020, Nicola was also the first celebrity to go on Strictly Come Dancing in same-sex couple, with her pro partner Katya Jones.
Alongside Nicola’s sporting career, she is passionate about promoting living a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle. She has worked with charities and strives to raise awareness of young people and women in sport and boxing.
This year, Nicola has been busy joining the Alpine F1 Team as a mentor for their Rac(H)er Programme, alongside becoming a Goodwill Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, launching her own boxing programme, ‘Get Started With Boxing With Nicola Adams’.
