Author, NYU professor and forecaster Dr Maha Hosain Aziz is a leading voice in global risk and future trends, and one of the few women in this male-dominated field. Cited by Economist Nouriel Roubini as “a global thinker to watch,” she is a skilled communicator who uses data-driven AI indices to explain the changing world order to a wide audience. Maha has built a portfolio career spanning academia, advisory work and thought leadership, and is an expert on predicting how the future shocks of geopolitics, climate change and AI will affect the human race.
As a professor on NYU’s International Relations MA program, Dr Maha Hosain Aziz leads the annual global risks prediction project with Wikistrat, the world’s first crowdsourced consultancy. Their clients include NATO, the US Military, the RAF, France’s Armée de l’air et de l’space, Deloitte, EY, Grant Thornton and Accenture. She acts as an advisor to the World Economic Forum (WEF) on its Global Foresight Network, following a five-year term on the Global Future Council on Risk. Maha is co-chair in AI Policy at think tank The Digital Economist, and acts as a C-Suite senior advisor via Enlighten Advisory, a boutique global advisory firm. She also teaches global risks online to undergraduates and high-school students via Pioneer Academics and the Global Diplomatic Forum.
In 2016, Dr Maha Hosain Aziz, whose teenage self wanted to be a cartoonist, published the first of ten books. The Global Kid, a bestselling cartoon about the risks faced by children, won several awards and was followed up by a VR/AR version in 2021. She has also authored a trilogy of award-winning books for adults, Future World Order (2019), and Global Spring: Predictions for the Era of Disruptors (2024). The third, 10 Shock Events by 2030, is due to be published in 2026. Maha is also working on a Generative AI-assisted comic book about global extremism, entitled Evolution.
Born in Jordan, and of Pakistani heritage, Dr Maha Hosain Aziz has lived in seven countries, including Saudi Arabia, Greece, Malaysia, Singapore, the UK and the US. She is a former investment banker who has gained several degrees in social sciences from institutions including University of London School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), Brown, Columbia and London School of Economics (LSE).
