Politics, longevity and global risk: the new books getting audiences talking this autumn.

What are the origins of America’s current crisis? How will you live your 100-year life? And what shock events are coming next?

In this month’s Readers’ Corner, we look at Anthony Scaramucci’s All the Wrong Moves, Professor Lynda Gratton’s Living the 100-Year Life and Dr Maha Hosain Aziz’s A Global Spring. Together they tackle the biggest shifts in politics, work and global risk. All three authors bring that thinking to conferences, leadership events and corporate stages as keynote speakers.

Here are the big ideas, the lessons for leaders and what these experts bring to the stage.

All the Wrong Moves

Anthony Scaramucci lasted a famously short 11 days as White House Communications Director in President Trump’s first term. He has now written a book about much bigger things. The Wall Street veteran and host of The Rest Is Politics: US sets out to explain the “true origins of America’s current crisis.”

All the Wrong Moves begins with a question many of us have asked: “Where did it come from, and how do we get out?” Anthony traces how three decisions, made by presidents from both parties, eroded trust and widened inequality. He sets out practical fixes too, from economic policy to constitutional reform. He also owns his own part in the story, which is rarer in political writing than it should be.

As an expert: Anthony has sat on a trading floor, run an investment firm and worked inside the White House, so he knows how Washington decisions reach markets and how markets shape policy. He speaks on politics, global finance, crypto, geopolitics and leadership, with wit and candour that audiences trust.

Living the 100-Year Life

“How will you live your 100-year life?” It’s the question at the heart of Professor Lynda Gratton’s new book, and one that more of us are asking as careers stretch across many decades. As Lynda puts it, “a longer life is a gift, but it changes the rules.”

Ten years after The 100-Year Life, which was shortlisted for the FT Business Book of the Year, she returns with a more personal guide. Work, she argues, is no longer a single straight path. It is a fabric we weave from eight threads, including mastery, friendship, calm and adventure. Drawing on global research and the stories of four fictional characters at different life stages, she shows how to strengthen those threads and build a working life that is resilient and meaningful.

As an expert: Lynda is a Professor of Management Practice at London Business School and leader of the Future of Work Research Consortium, which brings together executives from more than 100 companies. She has spent decades studying how people and organisations work together, and speaks on the future of work, hybrid working, the talent ecosystem and longevity.

A Global Spring

Dr Maha Hosain Aziz helps leaders make sense of a world of heightened global risk and shocks. The NYU professor and World Economic Forum risk expert became known for her bestselling Future World Order, in which she charted what she calls a “global legitimacy crisis.”

Its sequel, A Global Spring, looks at how geopolitics, politics, economies and societies will evolve in a post-pandemic era shaped by war, AI and climate change. It offers sharp predictions on what comes next, including why citizens frustrated with governments that fall short may be heading towards a “global spring” of civil unrest.

As an expert: Maha turns global risk into something organisations can act on. She speaks on the shock events to watch by 2030, the AI race and the new leaders of a new world order, with forecasts that help companies prepare rather than react.
