Biography

Ken Robinson is an Adviser and Consultant on tourism; strategic planning, development and optimising the economic and social benefits of tourism. His specialism is: the analysis, development planning, management and marketing of Visitor Attractions and related tourism facilities.

Ken Robinson has undertaken numerous projects and studies for Government Departments and Agencies, major companies in the private sector, Local Authorities, Trusts and individual investors; primarily in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and Europe, but including projects in USA, Canada and Asia.

He was Managing Director of Leisure Recreation and Tourism Ltd and its subsidiary, Ventures Consultancy Ltd, which formerly provided analytical, development and management services for tourism projects and visitor attractions. Grant eligibility adviser for major Tourism and Attractions projects.

Author of Tourism Strategy Development Template for Nations for the UNWTO. Commissioned to produce a national Strategy for optimizing the Tourism benefits of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. Speaker to Conferences on tourism, attractions, commercial leisure and recreation management, marketing and allied subjects.

Author of many reports, planning and strategy documents, and articles on contemporary tourism and leisure issues and futures, and on Visitor Attractions. Contributor to professional journals, magazines and newspapers on related topics. Principal author of the first Visitor Attractions Strategy for England, “Action for Attractions”, published by English Tourism Council in November 2000.

As Managing Director and Principal Consultant of Ventures Consultancy Ltd and Leisure Recreation and Tourism Ltd, major clients (for appraisals and development of Leisure, Recreation and Attractions projects, and management services) included: UN International Trade Centre, Historic Royal Palaces, Kew Gardens, British Holiday and Home Parks, Greenwich Tourism Strategy, Beaulieu: National Motor Museum, Westminster Abbey, London Docklands, Defence Heritage, English Heritage properties, English Riviera, Empire State Building, Guinness (Diageo), Isle of Man Tourism, Manchester Castlefield, Maritime Trust, Museum of Australia, Shannon Development, Irish tourism projects, British Telecom, Timexpo, Conn. USA, Pyramids of Guimar Tenerife, Royal Mint.

Director of Operations of the New Millennium Experience Company from January 1997 to February 2000, throughout the planning, development, implementation and commissioning phases.
