About Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a Norwegian professional football manager and former player, best known worldwide for his long and successful association with Manchester United.
Signed by Manchester United from Norwegian club Molde in 1996, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spent 11 seasons at Old Trafford, scoring 91 goals in 235 Premier League appearances. During this period he helped his side win six Premier League titles and cemented his reputation as one of the game’s most clinical and composed finishers.
Solskjaer is forever remembered for scoring the dramatic added-time winner against Bayern Munich in the 1999 UEFA Champions League final, completing Manchester United’s famous Treble. He also remains the only substitute to score four goals in a Premier League match, achieving the feat in just 19 minutes against Nottingham Forest in 1999.
After retiring from playing in 2007, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer moved straight into coaching at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson, initially working with the first-team strikers before taking charge of the reserve team. In November 2010 he returned to Molde as manager and, in his debut season, guided his former club to the first league title in their 100-year history. Molde retained the title the following year and went on to win the Norwegian Cup in the next campaign.
In January 2014 Solskjaer took his first Premier League managerial role with Cardiff City. After eight months in Wales he rejoined Molde, leading them to consecutive runners-up finishes in the Norwegian top flight.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed caretaker manager of Manchester United in December 2018. Following an outstanding run of results, including 10 wins out of 13 in the Premier League and a memorable comeback victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League, he was rewarded with a three-year contract. In his first full season in charge he guided Manchester United to a third-place finish, securing a return to the Champions League for the 2020/21 campaign. The following season the club finished second in the Premier League and reached the UEFA Europa League final.
