Biography

Solvej Biddle is an international founder, angel investor, board adviser, stakeholder influence expert and creator of The ENGAGE Method®.

Across a career spanning more than three decades, she has experienced high-stakes business conversations from almost every side of the table: as a lawyer negotiating multimillion-pound commercial agreements, as a founder seeking investment and winning major partnerships, as a programme creator working with senior leaders, as an adviser sitting alongside leadership teams, and as an angel investor evaluating other founders and their businesses.

Solvej began her career as a commercial, advertising and branding lawyer, recognised by Chambers for her work. She went on to build and scale her own consumer-products company across five continents, establishing commercial relationships with organisations including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Amazon UK and USA, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Boots, John Lewis, Mothercare, Bed Bath & Beyond and Buy Buy Baby.

Her appearance on BBC Dragons’ Den became one of the programme’s most memorable investment negotiations. During an intense two-and-a-half-hour pitch, Peter Jones made the programme’s first investment offer without asking a single question. Four of the five Dragons competed to invest, with Solvej ultimately securing joint investment from Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden.

Solvej is equally candid about what sits behind the visible successes. Her entrepreneurial story encompasses the setbacks, uncertainty,

manufacturing challenges, commercial pressure and unexpected turns involved in taking an idea from its earliest stages to an international business. This gives her a powerful and frequently humorous perspective on resilience, tenacity and knowing when to persist, adapt or change course.

Her central premise is that even the strongest idea cannot speak for itself. A compelling product may open the door, but what happens next depends on whether its advocate can understand the people involved, respond intelligently as the dynamics change and connect the idea to what genuinely matters to them.

This insight led Solvej to create The ENGAGE Method®, a practical framework for stakeholder influence in the conversations that shape businesses. She works particularly closely with founders and CEOs navigating investors, boards, strategic partners, senior hires and key customers.

As UK Ambassador for Tech Nordic Advocates, Solvej supports ambitious technology founders across the UK and Nordic-Baltic region. More than 700 founders have participated in its programmes. She has delivered keynotes, interactive sessions, panels and individual founder coaching in Copenhagen, Oslo and Helsinki, as well as remotely.
