About Joakim Paasikivi
Joakim Paasikivi is a Swedish military officer and security policy analyst with decades of experience in strategy, intelligence, and international operations. Over a long career within the Swedish Armed Forces, he has held several key positions, combining practical military leadership with academic and analytical roles.
Within the Swedish Armed Forces, Joakim Paasikivi served as a lecturer in military strategy at the Swedish Defence University, where he trained and mentored future military leaders. He also headed the Mali desk within the Swedish military intelligence service, giving him first-hand insight into international crises, peacekeeping missions, and the complexities of modern conflict.
In February 2022, Joakim Paasikivi became widely known to the Swedish public when he was frequently called upon by national and international media to comment on Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. His clear, measured analyses of Russia’s objectives, military developments, and the broader security implications for Europe quickly made him a trusted expert voice.
Following his retirement from the Swedish Armed Forces in the summer of 2024, Joakim Paasikivi continued his work in strategic advisory roles.
