Matthew Taylor is a leading political figure who has enjoyed a successful career branching politics, research, journalism and public policy. A former Labour politician, Matthew has worked at the epicentre of Number 10 Downing Street and is now a popular choice as a keynote speaker for corporate events. Best known for his political influence, Matthew is the current Chief Executive of the NHS Confederation and the former Chief Executive of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, otherwise known as the Royal Society of Arts. As the chair of the RSA, Matthew worked on its mission to explore innovative solutions to pressing social challenges. Matthew has formerly acted as a Labour Party County Councillor for Warwickshire and was the former Head of the Number 10 Policy Unit as Chief Adviser on Political Strategy under the rule of Tony Blair. During his time in politics, Matthew had a substantial impact on campaigns for British general elections and has left his mark in the political history books.
After studying at both the University of Southampton and the University of Warwick, Matthew became a member of the Labour Party, acting as the County Councillor for Warwickshire. With the passions to represent Warwick and Leamington as MP, Matthew stood for the 1992 General Election. Unfortunately, Matthew failed to secure election and instead went on to become the Campaign Co-ordinator and Director of Policy in the 1997 General Election and later the Assistant General Secretary of the Labour Party. Matthew has also had a substantial impact as the former Director of the Institute for Public Policy Research before he was appointed as Chief Adviser of Strategy to Tony Blair.
Outside of politics, Matthew has enjoyed roles as a regular columnist for the Local Government Chronicle and has also worked as a Visiting Professor at Nottingham Trent University. His commitment throughout his career has been recognised with election as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and he was also appointed CBE from the Queen in recognition of his Services to Employee Rights. He has also been bestowed with honorary degrees from universities such as Warwick, Brighton and Northampton.
