James Alexander‘s Biography
James Alexander is an experienced entrepreneur and business advisor.
He is currently a Director of FutureAgenda.org, the world’s largest open foresight programme, and an advisor to a number of innovative finance payers including Seedrs, Loot, giffgaff money and LandBay. Future Agenda looks at the world in 2025 and the challenges we will encounter over the next decade.
As co-founder of ZOPA (‘zone of possible agreement’), Alexander developed both a successful business and a new way of borrowing and lending money which paved the way for other innovations such as crowdfunding. Zopa facilitates those with money to invest and lend to small borrowers. Lenders can see who is borrowing their money and what it is being used for.
Having served as CEO and board director of Zopa, Alexander then became a Partner at The Foundation, a company that helps businesses develop growth and customer-focused strategies.
Alexander was also involved in the development of Smile, the Co-operative Bank’s online division, when he worked for LEK Consulting. He went on to become Strategy Director for EGG, launching their pioneering digital TV and mobile services. He led EGG through a rapid growth period in the UK and prepared it for its introduction to the US market.
He advises a number of social ventures and charities including the RSPB (where he was previously a Trustee), the GoodLab, the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, GreenThing and as Chair of Gen Community Ventures.
